My Crazy Country: A Nation Divided
by David Batcheller
After spending 5 years serving as a missionary in Ecuador, I returned to the United States last summer to face the reality of the massive changes that had taken place here. Fortunately for me, I landed once again in Texas, which has cushioned my transition in some ways.
First off, I faced a devastating flood that occurred here in the Kerrville area. Personally, I had never been this close to such devastation and loss of life. But I was encouraged to see the overwhelming response that took place afterwards. From day one of reentry, I was shocked to see such high prices everywhere. Inflation had easily doubled and tripled the prices in only five years! This also became very personal, and I struggled to adjust.

Speaking at the state capital in Santa Fe, NM
As many of you know, I had been for many years involved in efforts to turn the tide of creeping socialism and anti-Christian values in America. I was involved politically when I lived in New Mexico, and then with other patriotic groups who were trying to restore our nation and further prepare for the cultural clash that we saw coming on the horizon. I also wrote my first two books during this time to sound a clear wake-up call to the American people.
After the Covid pandemic, four years with a passive, incompetent president had made an unmistakable mark on my crazy country. America had lost the respect of the world. Millions of illegal immigrants were allowed to pour into our nation, completely unchecked, and their presence was felt everywhere. The left-shifting, radical cultural changes had already been happening for years in certain parts of the country, but now it was even worse. Within the mainstream media and our universities, the flames of cultural revolution were burning out of control. Riots and mass protests became commonplace. Defying all logic and common sense, the cries for more socialism and defunding law enforcement were gaining traction. Layered upon this were other insane ideas which had introduced things like “woke” and transgender philosophies that have continued to erode the foundational Judeo-Christian values that this country was built upon. I had heard of these things while in Ecuador, but now I had to face it in real life.
Everywhere I looked, I saw the accelerated results of this erosion, and I was soon thrust back into a deep sense of frustration and discouragement. Even though the reelection of Donald Trump has emerged as a ray of hope, I fear for his life because of the absolute hatred that at least half of the country has for him. Nothing demonstrates this tension more than the murder of Charlie Kirk, an outspoken Christian who was engaging this conflict

head on in a peaceful way. And now recently, to show how far left the Democratic party has shifted, the Republicans are now airing videos of Barack Obama speaking about corruption, law enforcement, and illegal immigration.
Politics in America, along with our judicial system, have become a laughable, cruel joke – a miserable reflection of this gaping cultural divide. The cultural and political division is now deeper than ever, and no one seems capable or willing to unify the nation. Talk of a civil war is on the rise. Today we are faced with massive fraud, corruption, and violence in places like Minnesota. Anarchy is on the streets. New York City has elected a mayor who is a communist. Global alignments and tensions only add to this pressure cooker environment. Are these things a sign of what is still to come?

As a Christian, my beliefs and convictions are shaped by a higher authority. As a Constitutionalist, my roots and my devotion is to the the vision of our Founding Fathers, who forged a nation like no other in history. I am convinced that the continued erosion and possible collapse of my crazy country, the United States of America, will be pivotal to what happens around the globe as we approach the only real solution – the return of Jesus Christ to the earth!
