Missionary in Machala, Ecuador
Ministry Bio
David Batcheller was born and raised by a loving family in Iowa. He became a Christian at the age of 16 and before long felt called to serve God.
In his twenties, David and his wife were very involved in evangelism and helped plant two churches. During this time, they also worked and began raising their two children. After they felt called to go to the mission field, David attended Miami Christian College and later received a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Logos Christian University.
Circumstances prevented them from moving to Latin America, but they continued to serve God in various capacities. In addition to his ministry involvement, David has worked primarily in customer service and sales, transportation, and accounting. Like many people, he has experienced the ups and downs of life, the joy and the pain, which included the traumatic experiences of church splits and divorce.
David is a gifted Bible teacher and has effectively shared the gospel message and discipled many younger believers in their faith. He has a true pastor’s heart and has effectively trained other Christian leaders while assisting in several other church plants. David has also become a prolific writer, having authored many articles, Bible study courses, and three books. His personal experience also includes additional training in business, personal counseling, and life coaching. Along the way, he also helped several small business owners and served with volunteer organizations, including eight years as the State Chairman for the Constitution Party in New Mexico.
Now, after many years, David has officially retired and is fulfilling his long-time dream of serving as a missionary in Ecuador. He has two adult children, two grand children. My Gifts and Calling
As you can learn from my writings and my website, I believe God called me to serve Him at a young age. Little did I know then that the path of my life would have many twists and turns, and a tremendous amount of testing, trials, and suffering. I learned along the way that God has used this same method throughout history to prepare people to be His servants. The Bible is filled with these stories. My individual path has been quite different than most people, but the Lord has always been faithful to walk with me every step of the way. My love for Him has grown immensely, and from this flows my ongoing desire to faithfully serve Him.
As I have grown over the years, I have also learned a lot about myself – my personality, my strengths and my weaknesses, my talents, skills, and spiritual gifts. Because of my background and training, it has not been easy trying to fit in or function in churches that are more traditional, but I have managed to survive with a minimal amount of enemies.
My gifts and the focus of my activities revolve around helping others to know and experience God personally and then discover their own purpose in life. I really enjoy encouraging people, communicating the truth of God’s word (both by teaching and writing), and challenging people to grow stronger, aim higher, and never give up. This all translates into four areas that I feel God has called me to focus on:
- Sharing with people about the love and life-transforming power of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Helping Christians to grow spiritually through personal discipleship, coaching, and counseling.
- Facilitating the growth and multiplication of local churches by training humble, yet effective leaders.
- Being faithful to do my part in fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus through church planting and missions.
